This book of football stories would be great, EXCEPT the print is almost indiscernibly light - almost impossible to read = VERYexasperating and distracting, to say the least!
Therefore I give this book a very low rating.
AN IMPORTANT CORRECTION! I just noticed that the author review is WRONG. The author was William H. Edwards who was
the 1899 Princeton football captain and who died in 1943. He was quite a guy, as you will see if you check him out on Wikipedia.
This book is essential for anyone interested in American football history.

If you want a book that is about modern football of today this is not the book for you. However, if you love stories of a bygone era when there was no Facebook, no cell phones, no ESPN this is a great read. It really gives you a sense of the love this author had for a game that has molded so many men over the past 100 years. Football is a game not for the faint of heart. You have to be both physically and mentally tough to play this game. Real life is a tough place and competition is the name of the game. Enough of the soapbox speech, read this book, it was very enjoyable.

Not useful for me
this book talks about a turn of the century, (1890's to early 1900's) and is so dry it sets itself on fire! ! ! !
Enjoyed the story
This is a VERY long reminiscence of football players and games involving the schools which later became the Ivy league from the 1890s to about 1915. The author is unfailingly courteous and positive in tone (which also dates the book!). It certainly presents images of a different game and a different world. Of interest to serious historians of the early days of the sport or those folks still alive who have memories of stories told by their grandfathers about football's distant past.
